should be a great help for the daily species thread

Internet Bird Collection

now just need to find similar ones for mammals, reptiles, insects, fish, crustaceans etc.etc.

a different bird site, especially concentrating on the new taxonomy where herons are no longer grouped with storks, and falcons no longer with eagles : IOC World Bird List

i assume the "O" stands for "Ornithological" and not "Olympic"

not something that i normally would do, but the Bird Forum is definitely a good site to visit if you're stuck on the identification of birds - they've already helped me out a number of times, haven't failed me once yet
