What are some of the things that might be or never will be invented? Thread is just for a little fun but perhaps there are some convincing or not too convincing arguments on the merits of a selection.

For instance: a Perpetual Motion machine comes to mind or how about a mind reading device? If you've read fiction then you read about some pretty amazing devices. Even cartoons be a source....remember when George Jetson got up in the morning and all he had to do was step on a moving track. By the time he got to the end he had shit, showered & shaved plus he was dressed for work without lifting a finger, just in time for his attache case to open up into a space car. Don't think we'll see that one.

Broadcast kinetic energy. Um... maybe uses quantum entanglement?

You know...it is possible that the first anti-gravity boots have been invented, except the inventor is now somewhere around the Kuiper Belt.

What might that be for the "other" members of the site who don't know.

A nano-bot is a nanometer scale robot built "molecule up" as opposed to "machined down". The nano-bots could link up in polymeric chains and form ultra strong materials.
Enough of them together could form a neural network, like a brain.
The "cloud" part references an ability to communicate wi-fi style between the nano-bots so that the neural network doesn't require synaptic connections or even any particular geometric arrangement.
You could end up with something like a T-1000, but with a slightly different technological premise.

Here's some I've heard pitched as possible but are quite demonstrably not:

* An honest-to-god Freezer, Cooler, or anything that reduces heat by a means other than displacing it.

* A golf-ball sized ball filled with "super light gasses" you can hang clothing etc on while it hovers (at least impossible in our atmosphere)

* Any machine that runs on water, yet produces only water as exhaust.

* and of course anything with the term "idiot proof" right in the title :D

Not necessarily impossible, but I don't know how it might be achieved: a body imager similar to an X-Ray or MRI machine that is capable of imaging without posing any health risks whatsoever to the person being imaged - and that is sufficiently affordable to warrant the inclusion of a machine in everyday places, such as at the local supermarket or at work, so that if you are shopping or working and have a sudden health scare, you can self-image using the machine and check for any obvious anomalies.
