At the start of Vsauce's "Touch - Mind Field" episode, Michael Stevens takes hotdogs sliced in half lengthwise, puts half in the microwave, and half in cold water. Then, he arranges the halves in an alternating fashion, hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold, etc.

Placing your hand or arm on the hot dogs will give off a very painful sensation.

What's the name of this unusual phenomena?

Searching "alternating hot cold sausages pain", on google doesn't give me an answer.

I have no idea what you're talking about - who would perform such a bizarre experiment and why ?
