I know that the movies don't always depict real life, but this one has bugged me for a while.

In real life, when the Hermes is swinging by earth to get a gravity assist and resupply, would they need to slow down to connect with the resupply module, or could they do this at the presumed accelerated speed?

Don't recall that part of the movie. But suppose the resupply module is in orbit, it must be moving pretty fast itself.

I do recall the massive lander on Mars being blown over, as though Mars has a super dense atmosphere.
