However, if I'm mistaken and the OP would genuinely like to engage in a discussion, then I request you please clarify your intent and ask a more direct question.

As it stands right now, it's a bit like you're asking, "Does water contribute a lot to life? How does this affect living organisms," which is too broad and vague to be terribly useful or answered beyond what PhDemon already shared.
