Had an odd recollection for the usage of this word in a conversation decades ago. While the possibility of actually having to commit a googloplex down on paper is unfeasible, is "googolplex" considered a real number?

I know that Googol is a humongous number, and that Google wanted to use it but the website was already taken
Googleplex, on the under hand, was I thought a reference to Google's campus, or am I wrong ?

on the other hand, maybe googolplex is a humongous complex number ?

I googolplex is a 1 followed by a googol of 0's.

It very well is. The existence of any real number has absolutely nothing to do with the practical limitations of the concrete universe.

There are some 'numbers' which will never even be named. The infinite variety is too overwhelming for our feeble transient intellects. The idea of the number will never be thought much less pass the lips of a living breathing person. Does the number still exist? Is a number a concept or an object?

I would say yes: numbers are mathematical concepts, which exist whether or not we can conceive of them. In a way I agree with the mathematician Edward Frenkel in this interview.

Quote:
Symmetry exists without human beings to observe it. Does maths exist without human beings to observe it, like gravity? Or have we made it up in order to understand the physical world?

I argue, as others have done before me, that mathematical concepts and ideas exist objectively, outside of the physical world and outside of the world of consciousness. We mathematicians discover them and are able to connect to this hidden reality through our consciousness. If Leo Tolstoy had not lived we would never have known Anna Karenina. There is no reason to believe that another author would have written that same novel. However, if Pythagoras had not lived, someone else would have discovered exactly the same Pythagoras theorem. Moreover, that theorem means the same to us today as it meant to Pythagoras 2,500 years ago.

that would be fun, a new set of numbers : the set of unimaginable numbers
whether this set is larger than the set of imaginable numbers only depends on your level of imagination

Would it be possible to type googolplex in digital form, or is it restricted to a mathematical expression?

A googol is 10^100, which according to the entry in wikipedia is
10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

A googolplex is 10^googol, which would be 10^(10^100) if I'm not mistaken, therefore making it
10^(10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000).

The zeros in a googolplex is after-all far lesser than counting 1 to googolplex isn't it?
