This is a new documentary series on Showtime about climate change. I don't subscribe to Showtime but was able to watch the first episode here (scroll down a bit):

http://yearsoflivingdangerously.com/where-to-watch/

It has Don Cheadle exploring the problem of religious faith versus science, Harrison Ford being outraged at deforestation in Indonesia and Thomas Friedman showing the link between drought in Syria and that country's civil war. All three segments were surprising and shocking. Cheadle's part showed the absolute rejection of climate science by conservative Christians in the town of Plainview, Texas, which seemed linked to hatred of Obama. How do we remove politics from the discussion of science, was Cheadle's question, and he found an evangelical Christian NASA scientist that offered some slight hope in this area.

indonesia i knew about
not, however, about Syria's drought leading up to revolution - scary if this becomes more prevalent across the globe

as for christian deniers, it's another way religion causes damage : if it absolves you of any responsibility of your plight, of course there's no reason for you to change
whereas if you accepted that you had contributed to your own mishaps, you might try and do something about it

I'm tempted to subscribe to Showtime to see the rest of the series. It's encouraging that a mainstream media outlet has actually developed tis series, but still wonder how much effect it will have. The deforestation issue is one of simple greed and corruption; a national park destroyed while the Indonesian government watches. How do you fight that? Harrison Ford seems determined to confront the Forestry Minister.
